Privacy Policy
What personal data SMIT collects through this website and in the course of trade, why we use it, who receives it, and the rights you have under UAE law.
1Who we are
This policy is issued by Saed Mahbub International Trading LLC (“SMIT”, “we”, “us”), a limited liability company licensed in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with its office at Al Saqr Business Tower, Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai. SMIT decides how and why the personal data described here is processed.
We process personal data in line with the UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on the Protection of Personal Data (the “PDPL”) and other applicable UAE law.
2What we collect
When you send an enquiry
- Your name and email address.
- Your company name and the enquiry topic, if you provide them.
- Your message and anything you include in it.
- Your consent to this policy.
- Technical details sent with the form: your IP address and the time of submission. These are included in the enquiry email we receive.
To stop the form being misused, our server also keeps a one-way hash of your IP address for one hour, so it can limit repeated submissions. The hash does not reveal your IP address.
When you do business with us
If you become a customer, supplier or partner, we process the business contact details of the people we deal with (names, job titles, email addresses and phone numbers) and the personal data that appears in trade documents such as quotations, orders, invoices, shipping and customs documents.
When you visit the website
Our hosting provider records standard server logs, such as IP address, pages requested, date and time, and browser type, to deliver the website and keep it secure. We do not use analytics or advertising trackers.
3Cookies and browser storage
This website does not set cookies. It saves a few small settings in your own browser’s storage to make the site work smoothly. They stay on your device and are never sent to us.
- smit-cache (local storage): the site version, so outdated files are refreshed after an update.
- smit-src-check and smit-tech-check (local storage): the boxes you tick on the Trade Guide and Technology checklists.
- smit-intro and smit-curtain (session storage): whether the opening animation and page transition have played. They are cleared when you close the tab.
You can clear these at any time in your browser settings.
4Why we use it
- To answer your enquiry and follow up on the business you asked about, based on the consent you give when you submit the form.
- To prepare quotations and carry out trades and services you have asked for, where processing is necessary to perform a contract with you or to take steps at your request before entering into one.
- To meet legal obligations, such as customs, tax, record-keeping, and sanctions and export-control requirements.
- To keep the website and our systems secure, including preventing spam and misuse of the enquiry form.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not send marketing messages unless you ask us to.
5Who receives it
We share personal data only where needed for the purposes above:
- Service providers who process it on our behalf: our website host (Hostinger), which also delivers enquiry emails, and our email provider.
- Trade partners involved in a transaction you have asked for, such as suppliers, manufacturers, inspection companies, freight forwarders, carriers and customs brokers.
- Authorities, such as customs, tax and regulatory bodies, where the law requires it.
Third-party content. The site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when a page loads. The map on the Contact page is loaded from Google Maps only if you choose “Show interactive map”. Google handles that data under its own privacy policy.
6Transfers outside the UAE
Some of our service providers, such as Google, and some trade partners are located outside the UAE. International trade also means sending documents to the countries goods come from or go to. Where personal data leaves the UAE, we transfer it only as the PDPL allows, for example where it is necessary to perform a contract with you, with appropriate contractual safeguards, or with your consent.
7How long we keep it
- Enquiries that do not lead to business: for as long as needed to respond and follow up, and then deleted.
- Trade and transaction records: for the periods required by UAE commercial, tax and customs record-keeping rules.
- Rate-limiting hashes: used for one hour.
- Server logs: for the period set by our hosting provider for security and operation.
8Security
The website is served only over encrypted HTTPS. Access to enquiries and trade records is limited to the people at SMIT who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
9Your rights
Subject to the exceptions in the PDPL, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy.
- Correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Erase your data.
- Restrict or stop processing your data.
- Transfer your data to you or another organisation, where technically possible.
You can withdraw your consent at any time. This does not affect processing that took place before you withdrew it. To use any of these rights, email Admin@smit.ae. We may need to confirm your identity first. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may be able to complain to the UAE Data Office.
10Children
This website is intended for businesses. It is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.
11Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our practices or the law change. The current version is always published on this page, with the date it was last updated.
